What is Pilates?

At the core of Pilates is the ethos of a healthy body and a happy mind, giving you balance and calm to tackle whatever life throws at you. By emphasizing proper breathing, correct spinal and pelvic alignment, core strength and complete concentration on smooth, flowing movement, you become acutely aware of how your body feels and how to control its movement. Pilates works on the whole body, but in particular the deep “core muscles” which are important not only for posture but for overall health and well being, building strength from the inside out. You will find that you can incorporate what you learn in your Pilates classes into your daily life, becoming more conscious of how you stand and walk, how you sit at your desk or computer and how you play sports. It is integration of mind and body – intelligent exercise.

Who is it for?

Pilates can be used as a rehabilitative tool for recovering from injury or coping with conditions such as MS, ME, back and neck conditions, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, osteopenia and osteoporosis. The Pilates Space classes also cater for pre and post natal.

"I can´t recommend this place enough. They´re very professional, friendly, and incredibly good at what they do. I have been seeing the same therapist for a few years now, for different reasons, and there hasn´t been a single time in which I didn´t improve considerably after treatment." Laura, Stevenage.
